Love language quiz for couples

Pick one of two, 20 times, and see all five love languages ranked.

What makes you feel most loved?

You get two small moments at a time. Pick the one that would mean more. It takes about two minutes, and there's nothing to sign up for.

How the quiz works

  1. 1

    Go with your first instinct

Each screen shows two moments. Both may sound nice, so pick the one you'd miss more.

  2. 2

    Read the whole ranking

Your result shows all five languages with a score, plus one request you can make this week.

  3. 3

    Compare with your partner

Send the link. Your partner takes the same 20 choices, and you both see the results side by side.

The five results

Words of affirmation

You feel loved when it's said out loud: thanks, praise, a plain "I love you".

Ask for it: "Tell me one thing I got right this week."

Give it: Say what you noticed, out loud, and name the exact thing.

Quality time

You feel loved when someone puts everything else down and is fully with you.

Ask for it: "Can we keep Sunday afternoon free, just us?"

Give it: Block out one evening this week and leave your phone in another room.

Receiving gifts

You feel loved when a small thing shows someone was thinking of you while you were apart.

Ask for it: "Next time something makes you think of me, bring it home."

Give it: Pick up one small thing that made you think of them. The price doesn't matter.

Acts of service

You feel loved when someone takes a weight off you without being asked.

Ask for it: "Could you take the pharmacy run this week? It would free up my evening."

Give it: Find the chore they keep putting off and finish it before they ask.

Physical touch

You feel loved through closeness: a hand, a hug, someone right next to you.

Ask for it: "Come sit next to me. I've missed you today."

Give it: Reach for them first: a hug hello, a hand on the back, a seat closer on the sofa.

What to do with your results

  • Trade one request

Each of you names one small thing you'd like this week. A specific ask is easier to act on than a label.

  • Read your partner's top line first

It's easy to give love the way you'd like to get it. Check whether what you do matches what they ranked highest.

  • Watch the gap

In a 2022 study of 100 heterosexual couples, people were more satisfied when their partner showed love the way they wanted to receive it (Mostova and colleagues). The study can't show cause.

  • Take it again in a hard month

Stress, a new baby or a move can change what you need. Your scores from today are a snapshot.

Love language quiz questions

How do I find out my love language?

Take the quiz above. You choose between two moments 20 times, and each of the five languages comes up 8 times, so your scores show which ones you pick most often.

Is this the official love language quiz?

No. This is an independent quiz written by Phorb. It isn't affiliated with Gary Chapman or the official Love Language brand, whose own quiz is at 5lovelanguages.com.

Can couples take the love language test together?

Yes. Take it first, then send your partner the link. They answer on their own and see both results, and they can send the comparison back to you. You don't need an account.

How accurate is a love language test?

Treat it as a conversation starter. A 2024 review by Impett, Park and Muise questioned whether people have one fixed love language, so this quiz shows all five scores.

Can I have two love languages?

Yes. If two languages tie for first place, the result shows both. A close second is worth reading as well.

Do you save my answers?

No. Your picks stay in your browser. A shared link carries your name and your five scores, nothing else.
