I'm not getting notifications from my partner

Missing alerts almost always come from one of three places: your iPhone's settings, Phorb's own settings, or a Focus that holds them back. Go through the checks below in order.

1. Allow Phorb in iOS Settings

Open Settings → Notifications → Phorb and turn on Allow Notifications. Keep Lock Screen, Notification Center and Banners on. If alerts show up but make no sound, turn on Sounds there too.

When iOS blocks Phorb, the app's Notifications screen says so and offers an Open Settings button.

2. Turn on the switches inside Phorb

In Phorb, open Settings → Notifications and turn on the main Notifications switch. If you skipped the notifications step when you signed up, this switch starts off.

Each kind of alert below it has its own switch, and all of them are on by default:

  • Partner connected
  • Received Emotions and Received Reactions
  • Partner needs and Partner notes
  • Pulse and Doodles
  • Games, Events and Wishes
  • Ask How You Feel

3. Check Focus and Scheduled Summary

A Focus such as Do Not Disturb, Sleep or Reduce Interruptions silences every app that isn't on its allowed list, and it can turn on by itself on a schedule. Phorb alerts aren't marked Time Sensitive, so a Focus holds them. To let them through, open Settings → Focus, choose each Focus and add Phorb under Apps → Allow Notifications From.

Scheduled Summary saves alerts for set times, so you only see them when the summary arrives or you open the app. Open Settings → Notifications → Phorb and choose Immediate Delivery.

4. Other reasons alerts go missing

  • Phorb is open: while you're using the app, it doesn't send you a push. Your partner's update appears on screen instead.
  • Apple Watch: when your iPhone is locked and you wear an unlocked watch, alerts go to the watch. Check the Watch app → My Watch → Notifications → Phorb.
  • New iPhone or reinstall: open Phorb once and sign in to the same account. That registers the device. Every device you're signed in on gets alerts.
  • Not paired: alerts about your partner's activity only arrive while you're connected. Check Settings → Pairing.
  • Old version: update Phorb from the App Store, because very old versions stop receiving alerts.

Check-in and Daily Sync reminders work differently: your iPhone schedules them itself, without a push from our servers. If those are missing, see the Daily Sync notifications article.

5. Test it with your partner

Close Phorb and lock your iPhone, then ask your partner to send you a Pulse or log an emotion. If the alert arrives, you're set. If it doesn't, restart your iPhone, try once more and write to us with your iOS version and the time of the test.
